Emma Hyslop-Webb (emmahyslop.co.uk) is an event rider competing from pre-novice to 4*. She has been producing horses since her teens and is a hands-on rider in the yard seven days a week. We chat with the riding star ahead of Houghton.
Q. What are you looking forward to at this year’s Houghton?
A. We are focusing on the younger horses and taking two five-year-olds for the BYEH classes and may return with some of the older horses to jump the 1.20 and 1.30m.
Q. What makes Houghton a special event for you?
A. It is a beautiful setting and it holds many happy memories. It’s always a very social event and it’s great to catch up with friends on the circuit.
Q. How is the 2019 season going so far?
A. Very well – we started out in Portugal on the Eventing Sunshine Tour, and we were third in the long 4 star and sixth in the short 4 star. We have just returned from a successful Badminton with those two horses. So now it’s time to concentrate on the younger horses.
Q. What are your eventing essentials from Nags?
A. Good question, my essentials from Nags would be a new hat every season, as it’s so important to look after your head. I am very easily tempted by anything new or on the sale rail, especially if it is pink!! The Hy fashion range at the moment is really on trend so we have quite a few pieces at the moment.
The Saracen Horse Feeds Houghton International Horse Trials runs from 23-26 May at Houghton Hall PE31 6UE
